Jun. 9--Area schools turned their students loose Friday for summer vacation -- but not without a little fun. From the pomp and circumstance of fifth-grade promotion to the sheer joy of finishing exams, students and teachers made their last day one to remember.
Fleta Windell, retiring physical education teacher at Providence Spring Elementary, knew something was up when her students doused her with silly string. Third- and fourth-grade students also decorated her car with streamers, filled it with balloons and tennis balls, and hung a huge "Just Retired" sign on the windshield.
