Jun. 8--COLONIE -- The college librarian, high school English teacher and laboratory technician all have a secret passion that they'll be sharing with others similarly afflicted this weekend.

After they've punched out from their day jobs, these folks repair to a private place to face the blank page and to travel back in their imagination to the Middle Ages, the Colonial era or Gilded Age.

They are among a roster of 300 historical novelists from England, Canada and across the U.S. who will gather at the Desmond Hotel in Colonie today through Sunday for the Historical Novel Society's North American conference.
