Jun. 1--TAMPA -- On the surface, it would appear the Lightning wasted little time in naming a new assistant coach one week after firing Craig Ramsay.
In reality, the groundwork for adding to Coach John Tortorella's staff was laid out in mid-May. Thursday, the team officially hired former Boston Bruins head coach Mike Sullivan as Ramsay's replacement, signing the Massachusetts native to a two-year deal.
When the thought of replacing Ramsay, who spent five seasons as associate coach with Tampa Bay, was being discussed, Sullivan was the only name Tortorella considered.
