Ex-SunTrust loan officer admits guilt in fraud case.

May 31--A former Richmond banker pleaded guilty yesterday to one count of bank fraud involving a $450,000 loan obtained ostensibly to aid his alma mater, Hampden-Sydney College.

Instead of going to the all-male liberal-arts college near Farmville, the money underwrote Charles L. Ellinger O'Brien's taste for fast, expensive cars and a membership at Kinloch Golf Club in Goochland County, according to a criminal complaint filed by the U.S. Attorney's Office.

In all, O'Brien, a 1989 Hampden-Sydney graduate, bought 10 cars, including a Mercedes-Benz and a Porsche.

He pleaded guilty to the fraud charge in U.S. District Court …
