May 31--Judged on its top students, Myers Park High is a star.

The south Charlotte school is nationally recognized for large numbers of students taking college-level courses. Its graduates win prestigious scholarships and attend top universities.

But state and federal laws have turned the spotlight on struggling students. And educators are recognizing that even good high schools don't work for everyone.

Myers Park, with more than 2,800 students, has dozens who drop out and hundreds who fail state exams. A recent CMS investigation, which found no evidence of intentional wrongdoing, looked at how the school treated kids…
