May 31--Davidson is looking to increase the number of students who walk to school every day.

On Wednesday, town and school representatives, transportation experts and parents attended a Safe Routes to School program workshop at town hall to explore laying the groundwork for a townwide effort.

Participants shared hopes of reducing traffic and pollution in town, and instructors explained how the federally funded program could help.

Congress has allotted $612 million to fund Safe Routes to School programs across the country, of which North Carolina is entitled to about $13 million or $14 million, said Judi Wallace, a…
