May 30--In today's Letters section Richard Dixon discusses Jamestown and the rule of law. He correctly notes that America's legal values took root in 1607. We are happy to report that the Jamestown celebrations have highlighted the settlement's contributions to the nation's laws -- and to its democratic development.

Last month, for instance, leading jurists from both sides of the Atlantic assembled at the University of Richmond for a two-day conference on Democracy and the Rule of Law, which was co-sponsored by the U of R, the American Inns of Court, the John Marshall Foundation, and other notable organizations.
