That excellent introduction from a favorite author might describe how it has felt to work on the last few issues of this journal. It has been a wonderful experience, in many ways, to edit JSGE--the excellent authors, the diligent reviewers, the committed editorial board, and, of course, the dedicated subscribers. Unfortunately, there just never were enough of the latter to make JSGE as financially solvent or have as much impact as it should have. So, this is the last issue.
I am proud of what JSGE has been, both before and during my time as journal editor, and I believe that we published articles that may not have been published by other journals and some authors who may not have had a voice in the field otherwise were given a chance to be heard. We just never were able to get the subscription numbers to go up, so it was time to do something different.
I'd like to specifically thank some people for making this journal possible for the years that it has existed. First, Tracy Cross, the first editor, and Joel McIntosh of Prufrock Press, the publisher, deserve praise for the conception and realization of the journal in the first place. Then, Paula Olszewski-Kubilius, Rena Subomik, and Marcia Delcourt for taking over the editorial duties when Tracy moved on to another editorship.
Since I have been editor, I have had the pleasure to work closely with several people at Prufrock on JSGE. First, Jim Kendrick, and then Jenny Robins, were always professional and patient with the mechanics of publishing the journal. Ginny Bates was responsive and efficient with reimbursing us for the expenses such as mailing and copying.
