The most powerful six-cylinder production engine ever built by General Motors arrives in July in the 2008 Cadillac STS. The aluminum 3.6-liter V6 gets direct fuel injection, which yields 302 hp, 272 lb-ft of torque, a 47-hp and 20-lb-ft increase from the 2007 3.6-liter V6. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard as well, up one gear from the previous model.
The STS, launched in 2004 as an '05 model, is offered in both V6 and V8 models, with 80 percent of the buyers choosing the six. Output for the 4.6-liter V8 remains the same at 320 hp and 315 lb-ft of torque.
