Top-tier investors Warren Buffett and Carl Icahn revealed they have taken large positions in several of the largest U.S. railroads, on top of a nearly 11 percent stake in BNSF Railway that Buffett had previously revealed.
In filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Buffett''s Berkshire Hathaway investment company said that as of March 31 it also held 10.5 million shares of Union Pacific Railroad and 6.36 million shares of Norfolk Southern.
Berkshire also holds stakes in parcel giant UPS, and leading big-box retailer-distributors Wal-Mart and Costco plus home improvement leaders Home Depot and Lowes.
