They call themselves "Model Minority" but their attitude is anything but. It's an in-your-face-with-a-smile attitude, a street-wise/culture-wise take on clothing and style that's about to blast off into the Big Time.
Melissa Chan and Chris Yee founded Model Minority last year to create the first Asian American fashion line. Their designs combine Asian culture with hip-hop style, and mix in a dash or two of tongue-in-cheek humor. With slogans like "Chu's Life" and Coolie," Model Minority's shirts and caps don't mind being controversial. They've already got big fans in college campuses around the country. The entertainment industry has become an "early adopter" of the brand, with people like B.D. Wong, Dustin Nguyen and even Madonna herself proudly sporting Model Minority wear.
