With light-duty diesels barely a blip on U.S. sales charts today, it's hard to believe we will ever embrace oil burners as daily drivers. Still, gasoline prices are near record highs, and new technology is making diesels more socially acceptable, so things are ripe for change.
Ask J.D. Power and Associates, which makes a living by forecasting such trends. Power predicts diesels will rise from today's 3.2 percent share of first-time registrants to make up 15 percent in the United States by 2015.
