We hit the road last summer in Volkswagen's hardtop convertible ("Seduced by Eos,'' AW, July 3, 2006). We said then that the Eos, with its 2.0-liter, 200-hp turbocharged inline-four, made us "lust for more.'' And now there's more.

The VW Eos now offers a 3.2-liter V6 engine that pumps out 250 hp and 235 lb-ft of torque.

The V6 is available only with VW's double-clutch direct-shift gearbox (DSG), and together they propel the convertible from 0 to 60 mph in 6.9 seconds, a half-second sooner than the previous four-cylinder.

Where the V6 really shows its stuff is in passing maneuvers at freeway speeds and in climbing ...
