May 17--Five Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools recently were award Magnet School of Distinction Awards, during the 25th Magnet Schools of America conference in Las Vegas.

Magnet Schools of America is a national organization created to help schools that receive federal magnet school grants.

The five CMS winners were Collinswood Language Academy, Idlewild Elementary, Oakhurst Elementary, Smith Language Academy, and University Park Creative Arts Elementary.

Collinswood and Smith offer language immersion programs.

Idlewild Elementary has a learning immersion and talent development program, offering academically gifted courses.

Oakhurst Elementary has a Paideia program,…
