British prime ministers don't leave office unless there's a war that's going badly, or they are ill. It's the war in Iraq that has got Tony Blair. His new Labour party has a basic core of unreconstructed socialists, pacifist and anti-American in their bones. They have persuaded the country that Blair knowingly lied about Saddam's weapons of mass destruction in order to curry favor with Washington and demean himself accordingly.
