Mike Yager remembers it vividly. He was 12 years old and riding in the passenger seat of his brother's truck, on the way home to Newton, Illinois.
"It was 4:30 one afternoon,'' the 57-year-old says. He saw a then-new 1962 Corvette parked at a plant near the highway.
"I was bit by the Corvette bug,'' says Yager, who runs Mid America Motorworks in nearby Effingham, the country's largest aftermarket Corvette parts seller. In its spotless shop, a rare '63 Yenko Z06 split-window coupe and the handmade rear-engined XP819 are being restored.
