Back when THE Japanese automakers were carving out their place in the world, they earned reputations for borrowing designs from already successful companies. Today, the Koreans have supplanted the Japanese in that skill-and are now busily borrowing from Japan's finest. The best evidence to date is the 2007 Hyundai Veracruz.
We're not saying cloning good vehicles is bad, especially if it means less expensive products that are near equals to the donor. And if it makes the original company work to create better, more distinctive vehicles, who will complain? Call it the automotive circle of life.
