Still fighting
U.S. District Court judge Marvin Schoob of Atlanta set a May 7 deadline to accept legal briefs as AT&T seeks an injunction that will allow it to replace Cingular as sponsor of the No. 31 Chevrolet of Jeff Burton at Richard Childress Racing. The telecommunications companies merged in December, and AT&T is phasing out the Cingular brand.
Schoob heard four hours of arguments, with NASCAR against the change because Sprint Nextel is a major corporate sponsor. A decision is expected within the next two weeks on whether AT&T can put its logos on Burton's car immediately or not at all.
