May 9--HAVEN -- With four counties including Sedgwick under a flood warning until Friday afternoon, farmers, businessmen and students worked Tuesday to fill sandbags and plug holes in dikes, trying to hold back the Arkansas River.

Twenty-five people in Reno County were rescued from floodwaters.

"We're trying to do rescues all up and down the Arkansas River," Reno County Emergency Management Director Bill Guy said. High water closed down a school in Nickerson and several roads in Reno County.

In rural Rice County, residents and rescuers used personal watercraft to evacuate neighbors from stranded homes.…
