CANBERRA, May 1 Asia Pulse - Labor leader Kevin Rudd is under pressure on two fronts over his party's industrial relations (IR) policies.
While facing criticism from business for his plans to give employees with young children the right to demand family-friendly conditions, Mr Rudd is being warned from within his own party not to abandon flexibility in carrying out his promise to scrap Australian workplace agreements (AWAs).
West Australian Premier Alan Carpenter says that if federal Labor abandons AWAs it must maintain the workplace flexibility that has helped drive growth in the booming mining sector, the cornerstone of the state's economy.
Mr Carpenter has urged Mr Rudd to consider the impact the abolition of AWAs could have on the resources sector, where the individual agreements are commonplace.
