Dayna Communications has announced a wireless lan adapter for the Macintosh called DaynaComm Serial Roamer. Using 2.4-ghz spread-spectrum technology, it provides a range of 150 feet. In addition, its data protocols and security keys are interoperable with those used by Xircom's Netwave, a pc-based product.

The Serial Roamer resembles a flat cellular phone and weighs 4.5 ounces. The unit can be attached to the back of a PowerBook or desktop Macintosh. Power comes from a detachable cellular-phone battery; batteries are available in several sizes for 2-8 hours of continuous operation.

Serial Roamers can be used by themselves to create a peer network of portable Macs. …
