Apr. 30--Nelly Dijkman, one of the designers of the Rare Plant House, one of the most popular exhibits at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, died Thursday of pneumonia and heart problems. She was 88.

"The Rare Plant House is a brilliant execution of an Asian design for tropical plants," said Bruce Greer, president of Fairchild's board of trustees, of the exhibit, which he added is "currently housing some of Dale Chihuly's best works and a world-famous collection of tropical plants, including orchids and ferns."

Dijkman's father also led David Fairchild to some of the original exotic plants he brought back from Indonesia and placed at the garden.…
