IBM to rev up OS/2 3.0 with multimedia, video features. (Brief Article)

In the latest bid to jazz up the image of its flagship PC operating system, IBM last week disclosed the addition of several multimedia features in the upcoming version of OS/2.

Due to be officially unveiled on Oct. 11 and to ship in early November, OS/2 3.0, code-named Warp, is aimed at the home and "edutainment" market. It will feature built-in Kodak Photo CD support so users can view photographs stored on CD-ROM discs without having to buy additional software.

IBM has also improved OS/2's video display capability with built-in MPEG video compression support. OS/2 3.0 will directly support video overlay cards, such as Win/TV from Hauppauge Computer Works Inc., …
