Apr. 28--An HISD charter school for at-risk teenagers inflated its attendance by more than 200 students last year and must now repay the extra $358,000 in state funding that it pocketed for those students, Houston school district officials said Friday.
ALTA Academy "falsified records either by intention, improperly trained staff or by failure to perform its due diligence," according to a report by the HISD inspector general's office. Allegations levied last year by a former ALTA employee led to the investigation.
