Q: I have recently been hired in a financial role and I ended up getting involved in a situation where our company engaged a transportation company to haul loads for us to different facilities. The transportation company turned around and brokered the loads out to many other companies to get the work done on time.
We had paid the transportation company for the agreed upon rate but they never remitted the appropriate amount of money to the brokers they used. After some time has passed, the brokers started calling us claiming they didn't get paid and therefore they wanted us to pay them for the work.
