New York Container Terminal will be able to accommodate larger ships after the Army Corps of Engineers and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey on Tuesday announced the completion of the Arthur Kill Channel 41-foot navigation project.

The project deepened the channel from 35 to 41 feet in the Elizabeth, N.J. Port Reach and the North of Shooter's Island Reach, N.Y. areas of the channel, including New York Container Terminal on Staten Island.

The $190-million Arthur Kill project is part of an overall harbor deepening program that is being conducted by the Corps and the port authority.
