The Department of Transportation's pilot program to allow U.S. and Mexican trucks to crisscross the border was shrouded in secrecy and should not be allowed to go forward, according to critics of the project.
The year-long plan, which could begin as early as next month, came under fire from Public Citizen, labor, and small trucking companies at a Senate Appropriations committee hearing March 8.
"DOT's fake pilot project is a calculated, cynical move to open the border as rapidly as possible and undermines their credibility," said Public Citizen president Joan Claybrook.
