Apr. 21--OAKLEY -- Amid national anxiety about student safety, word of threats made by a Freedom High student prompted hundreds of students to stay away from campus on Friday.

Roughly 475 Freedom High students -- about a quarter of the school's student body -- were absent after parents received word on Thursday that school officials and police were investigating threats made by a student there, Principal Eric Volta said.

Neither police nor school officials would give details about the threats, but they said Friday that they have concluded that the boy did not pose a credible threat. He has not been allowed to return to campus…
