Apr. 23--A Cleveland County woman drowned Sunday afternoon after reportedly trying to reach a hat from a boat on a lake near Kings Mountain.

Freda Dial, 50, had been out with her husband, Bryan Joseph Dial, in a boat on John H. Moss Lake, according to Kings Mountain police.

Police said her hat fell into the water and she fell overboard as she tried to reach it. Cleveland County emergency dispatchers said they were called at 4:37 p.m. Emergency crews from the county, Shelby and Kings Mountain searched the waters of the man-made lake and recovered her body about 30 minutes later, authorities said.
