Apr. 19--Two separate studies provide the most potent evidence to date that hormone replacement therapy is linked to tumor growth, with evidence suggesting that breast cancer rates dropped sharply in the United States after millions of women abandoned the pills, while ovarian cancer rates rose in Britain among those who continued to take them. Figures in today's edition of the New England Journal of Medicine suggest that there have been 16,000 fewer cases of breast cancer nationwide since a mid-2002 report from the federal Women's Health Initiative, which associated hormone therapy with elevated rates of breast cancer, stroke and heart attack.…
