Apr. 17--Thousands of Mecklenburg County customers remain without power this morning, in the wake of strong winds that toppled trees and caused damage Monday across much of North Carolina.
Forecasters say winds will be lighter today in the Piedmont and most of the foothills, but strong gusts continue this morning in the North Carolina mountains.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and other systems in the region are open today.
And there are no reports of malfunctioning traffic signals this morning.
The winds were caused by the strong storm system that socked the Middle Atlantic and New England states Monday. That system is weakening its grip on the East Coast today, but some flight delays -- especially involving flights to Boston -- are possible…
