Panthers rally late to top Rams: Three-run ninth lifts Georgia State; FSU sweeps Virginia Tech.

Apr. 16--PANTHERSVILLE, Ga. -- A three-run ninth-inning rally was the difference as Virginia Commonwealth University fell to Georgia State 12-11 yesterday.

The Rams took an early 6-0 lead as VCU scored three in the first, one in the third, and two in the fourth. The Panthers battled back, and trailing 11-9 in the bottom of the ninth, they put together a rally against three Rams pitchers.

Charlie Pelt reached on an infield single off Phillip Deane, then with Mick Mattaliano on the mound, Luke Gordon hit a single and Chase Childers reached on a VCU miscue, which allowed Pelt to score to cut Georgia State's deficit to one.
