Apr. 13--After some disagreement, the Houston school board consented Thursday to a unique deal that would let a nationally esteemed charter school open inside an under-performing high school.
The board voted 7-1, with one abstention, to let YES Prep Public Schools start a program at Lee High School in hopes the charter might replicate its success at preparing poor and minority students for college.
