Not long ago, when sports cars invaded America, the need to gather was strong for the passionate misfits who had veered from high-powered hot rods to these spindly-legged creatures. The conclaves were formal and not. As if by summons, they'd appear along twisty roads and then take off, with abandon and glee, to pilot their MGs and Porsches, their Ferraris, Siatas and other assorted exotica. They would take over fraternal halls and have fish fries and spaghetti feeds and tell stories of failed electrical systems and successful marriages, and vice versa.
