Measure it to manage it
' book review
Performance measurement offers a vital underpinning for management, but in this book Peter Brophy, warns against management by numbers alone.
Brophy is right to point out that while libraries have been measuring their performance for a long time, exactly what is being measured has changed. For example, the historic focus on stock levels has shifted, and the success of a library is now more likely to be measured by its impact on its users.
This book sets out to summarise performance measurement issues and techniques in all types of libraries today. It also highlights areas where further development is needed.
The book's target readership is librarians, library managers and students of librarianship.
