For Sony BMG, taking the A&R submission process online is just a small part of a wider "opening up" of the company as it takes its day-to-day operations into the blogosphere.
All 400 of its UK staff are now being encouraged to establish their own profiles on the Vox.com platform and provide regular updates about their life and work within communities for the RCA and Columbia label groups.
"I believe in opening up our company," says Doherty who, alongside RCA managing director Craig Logan and his Columbia opposite number Mike Smith, is leading the charge and providing frank, weekly blog updates via his own profile. "It is about saying to people, `We're open to doing things differently, we're not afraid to open up our company to show that we're human beings who work here who love music'."
Currently around 70 staff from the major are plugged into the service, providing a first-hand account of life at the record company ...
