The resort enjoyed its first flush of popularity in the 1920s and '30s, when British officers and their families fled the sweltering lowlands for the temperate upland climes, where the temperatures can be chilly enough at night to warrant a roaring fire. Today the 56-room boutique hotel is owned by YTL, which runs the country's famed Pangkor Laut Resort, and draws a mix of locals and foreigners who come to enjoy the tea plantations, the local golf course, the mountains and the fresh food.
