Apr. 3--Fuyang, 80 miles from Shanghai, is a center of China's fiber-optics industry.
The University at Buffalo hosts a photonics research center, which has spun off a handful of start-up companies.
Could know-how here lead to products there? A group of visitors from Fuyang has made the 7,300-mile trip to find out.
"We need to see if [UB technology] can be applied in industry," Huaqing Shen, Fuyang's vice mayor, said through an interpreter on Monday. "If it can be applied, I see a bright future."
Besides Shen, the group included officials from opto-electronic equipment makers and from a Chinese university…
