Q I met this guy who's great, he's coming on really strong. He told me the first time we met that he was going to marry me. Plus, he calls every day. His friends say he's never been like this about a girl, but I want to slow things down. Help!
A I think this guy's confusing lust with love. You might be the best thing that's happened to mankind since PlayStation 3, but that doesn't mean everything he says and does is sincere. Relationships need time to grow and mature organically. You barely know this guy, and he's already, like, making wedding plans and programming you into his speed dial? Beware of men who come on too strong at the start. They frequently run out of gas before they even get to the finish line.
At this point, you should take his love-struck actions with a heavy dose of skepticism. Next time he professes his undying adoration for you, laugh it off and tell him he's sweet but he barely knows you. You don't have to put on the brakes entirely, but you should try to get him to switch to a lower gear.
