(From Lloyds List)
A MASTER plan for the regeneration of Old Harwich is based on the assumption that Harwich Navyard, one of the first purpose-built ro-ro terminals in Britain, will eventually be redeveloped to provide waterfront housing, a marina and other facilities.
If that happens, it is expected that the Mann Lines and Brointermed services handled at the Navyard will be relocated to Harwich International Port.
However, nothing has been definitely agreed and any move would be subject to the right agreement, says Allan Binks, chairman of Mann Lines and the Navyard Wharf, which are both part of the Mann Group.
'Obviously moving from the Navyard would be a big decision for us,' he says.
'The presumption is that if the Navyard was sold for redevelopment we would move our operations to Harwich International Port. But it does not necessarily follow. There are other possibilities, such as the Humber.'
Mr Binks says there is 'very much a willingness' by both the Navyard and Harwich International to work together. While a move is not imminent it could take place in two years or more quickly under certain circumstances.
