THERE is always something just a trifle insincere, maybe even a little creepy, about those facile statements in company reports confiding that 'people are our greatest assets'.

Talk about a statement of the bleeding obvious, except that they then go wittering on about the importance of the shareholders before a brief paragraph notes that X amount of millions have been set aside for redundancy provisions. It is the way of the world.
