TODAY sees Singapore kick off SeaAsia, an event it hopes will ultimately become an Asian rival to Norshipping and Posidonia.
SeaAsia, co-organised by the industry-led promotional body Singapore Maritime Foundation and Seatrade, is a three-day exhibition and conference at Suntec City.
The opening morning will see a number of regional shipowners grappling with the Asian voice in the shipping industry or the lack of it.
The panel discussing the issue will be Douglas Hsu, chairman of U-Ming Marine Transport, Yudhishthir Khatau, managing director of Varun Shipping, Jong-Chul Lee, president and chief executive of STX Pan Ocean, Andreas Sohmen-Pao, managing director of BW Shipping, S S Teo, managing director of Pacific International Lines, and Fred Tsao, chairman of IMC Pan Asia Alliance Group.
Following the morning keynote session Singapore's President S R Nathan will give an opening address followed by a speech by International Chamber of Shipping chairman Spyros Polemis.
