Byline: Dearth of deals in tanker sector but steady prices and strong inquiry are still in evidence, writes David Osler
THE sale and purchase big picture remains unchanged from recent weeks, with continued high volumes of transactions for dry vessels offset by a dearth of deals but steady prices and strong inquiry in the tanker sector.
Let us begin with bulk carriers. Panamax sisters Magna Graecia and Galla Graecia (both 74,133 dwt, built 2001) are understood to have gone to Greek parties at $49m each.
In the same size bracket, Orion has paid $54m for Maria GO, of 74,477 dwt and 2005 year of build. That is just over 5% up on last done.
D'Amico handysize Medi Cebu (52,464 dwt, built 2002) fetched a weak $37m on account of a charter until October next year at $14,000 a day attached.
DryShips has sold the 48,640 dwt Alona, built 2002, at $37m, which is $5m more than it paid for it two years ago.
