Byline: Shipmanagement stalwart Stephan Polomsky to head Hamburg-headquartered operation, writes Janet Porter
GERMAN shipowner Claus-Peter Offen is spinning off his fledgling tanker interests into a separate company as he seeks to grow this new business in partnership with Sweden's Brostrom Group.
Mr Offen has invested around $800m in chemical-product tankers over the past few months but continues to spend heavily on containerships, where he is one of the world's biggest owners.
Stephan Polomsky has been recruited from John T Essberger to head CP Offen Tankschiffarts, which will be based in Hamburg alongside Reederei Claus-Peter Offen's containership operations.
The first ships to join the new company will be a series of eight 37,000 dwt ice-class chemical-product tankers ordered from Hyundai Mipo late last year for 2008 delivery.
These will be operated through a recently formed long-term partnership between Offen and Brostrom that already has eight similar sized ships trading in Europe.
