At least four carriers move across the bay. Port still hopes to renew activity at Pier 80 container terminal.

Four shipping lines have shifted their northern California operating hubs from San Francisco to ports on the bay's eastern shore, and a Port of San Francisco official said a fifth was expected to do the same.

But the official -- finance manager Ben Kutnick -- said also that the port administration hoped to renew activity at its dormant Pier 80 container terminal by luring a transpacific carrier there on a dedicated-use basis.
