Mar. 22--There's little doubt that Erie County is still losing population. How fast it's losing residents might be up for debate. Erie County's population has declined by 28,875 since 2000, a 3 percent drop, or an average loss of 4,800 people a year, according to estimates released today by the U.S. Census Bureau. No other county in New York State lost more people than Erie County since the start of the decade. Niagara County lost about 3,700 people since 2000, a 1.7 percent decrease, estimates show.
