JISC uploads 130 years of census reports

Every British census report between 1801 and 1937 has been made available free online for the first time as part of a project to digitise historically important information.
The reports contain a host of demographic insights, including age breakdown, occupations, birthplaces and conjugal situation of Britons, as well as foreigners living in the country.
The resource was launched by AHDS History, the historical data archive at Essex University, as part of a [pounds sterling]10m digitisation programme by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) to make sound, moving pictures, newspapers, censuses, journals and parliamentary papers available for use by schools, colleges and universities.
