Mar. 17--Todd and Marcy Cox were really looking forward to their daughter participating in the chorus program at Martin Magnet Middle School.

Shelby, 10, had participated in a statewide singing competition last year. They thought a school with a chorus program would give her more experience. But Shelby wasn't accepted. "It's been a stinky day all around," Todd Cox said Friday. The Coxes were among thousands of families in Wake County who found out Thursday or Friday whether they were accepted into magnet, traditional or year-round schools they applied to in February.
