Mar. 16--Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools has called in an attorney to investigate allegations that Myers Park High School administrators coerced struggling students to drop out and improperly reported their departures. "We are committed to discovering the truth," Superintendent Peter Gorman said at a news conference Thursday, adding that he expects to release findings in about 30 days. Gorman said CMS has found "some record-keeping errors," but declined to say more while the investigation is in progress. He gave the update after Time magazine's Web site ran an article Wednesday about the allegations, which were first published in The Charlotte Post in August.
