Mar. 13--One person was killed and 21 others injured in a fire late Monday night at an adult care center in Davie County.

There are several reports that an explosion preceded the fire at the Davie Place Residential Care center, on Hospital Street in Mocksville.

The center is about halfway between Statesville and Winston-Salem.

Beth Dirks, assistant county manager for Davie County, told the Associated Press early this morning that four of the 21 injured people were in critical condition.

Authorities say George Minor, of Mocksville, was killed in the fire.
